Information Technology in the District

• Role of NIC in the District:
  The National Informatics Center (NIC), was established in 1989, but due to disturbances in the Valley it was closed temporarily and was again made fully operational  in 1996. Since then NIC Anantnag has been helping the District Administration by providing the IT based support in all most all the day to day activities. In its initial inception the Center was equipped with PC-386 machines and NICNET connectivity was provided with the help of c-200 VSAT. But with the passage of time latest technology in the field of IT has been introduced and presently the Center is having the state of art VSAT (FTDMA) technology. A Local Area Network (LAN) comprising of about thirty nodes has been established. The LAN covers the main DC Office building and various departments having their offices out side the main complex.  All the nodes have been provided Internet facility through the NICNET.
  Training is the other aspect which is given thrust. So far about 100 officials from various departments have been provided training in handling the computers. This has helped a lot to promote the informatics culture in the district. Various projects which have been completed / undertaken by NIC Anantnag are as under:-

      03) Preparation of District Statistical Handbook
      04) Preparation of Village Amenity Directory
      05) Preparation of Online Telephone Directory
      06) Preparation of Annual District Plan
      07) Computerization of Relief Work
      08) Computerization of Land Acquisition cases 
      09) Computerization/Internet facilities  during Assembly / Parliament Elections
     10) Establishment of Local Area Network
     11) Support for various National / State level projects like

  • Treasury Computerization
  • CNAA Project.
  • 7th All India Education Survey
  • Online Monitoring of Rural Development Works.

               The above are only a few mile stones crossed and several other challenging projects are yet to be taken. Keeping in view the fact the NIC Anantnag is working hard to develop informatics culture, the dream of complete computerization in the district will definitely realized.

• Setting up of Computer Labs in various Educational Institutions:
  A project regarding the establishment of computer labs in educational institutions is  being implemented by the State Govt. 

• Computer Institutes in the Private Sector:
  Various private Computer Centres are running in the district. NITT, APTECH, CEDTI, COMPAQ etc. have their  outlets in the district.
  Besides IGNOU has established a Study Center and Govt Degree College (Boys) is also running Bachelors level courses in Computer Science and IT.
